Automated Assessment of Passing Sight Distance on Rural Highways using Mobile LiDAR Data

چکیده
Providing sufficient Available Sight Distance (ASD) that meets the minimum design requirements is crucial for highway safety. Previous work on sight distance assessment focused Stopping (SSD) with little attention given to Passing (PSD). Insufficient PSD could lead severe collisions such as head-on and sideswipe crashes. To address this gap, paper introduces an automated method two-lane highways using mobile Light Detection Ranging (LiDAR) data. The procedure involved extracting centerline lane marking, defining passing-allowed passing-prohibited regions, computing ASD, comparing existing marking pattern (i.e., passing no-passing zones) a proposed based ASD maneuvers. Regions meet standards, substandard zones, non-optimal regions were all defined. A reallocation of zones was conducted including modifying pattern, which resulted in increasing total length by up 20%, providing more, but safer, opportunities. high-level safety historical showed clusters crashes along where currently allowed at locations less than standard requirements. framework represents tool transportation agencies assess PSD, upgrade highways, investigate consequences limitations ensure compliance standards during service life.

data envelopment analysis (dea) is a powerful tool for measuring relative efficiency of organizational units referred to as decision making units (dmus). in most cases dmus have network structures with internal linking activities. traditional dea models, however, consider dmus as black boxes with no regard to their linking activities and therefore do not provide decision makers with the reasons...
Automated Highway Sign Extraction Using Lidar Data
1 Traffic signs are an integral element of any transportation network; however, keeping records of 2 those signs and their conditions is a tedious process, which is both time consuming and labour 3 intensive. As a result, many agencies around the world have been working towards automating the 4 process of sign collection. One form of automation is using remote sensing techniques to extract 5 tr...

Change detection has long been a challenging problem although a lot of research has been conducted in different fields such as remote sensing and photogrammetry, computer vision, and robotics. In this paper, we blend voxel grid and Apache Spark together to propose an efficient method to address the problem in the context of big data. Voxel grid is a regular geometry representation consisting of...

The development of an Automated System for Asthma Monitoring (ADAM) is described. This consists of a consumer electronics mobile platform running a custom application. The application acquires an audio signal from an external user-worn microphone connected to the device analog-to-digital converter (microphone input). This signal is processed to determine the presence or absence of cough sounds....
متن کاملAutomated Recognition of Railroad Infrastructure in Rural Areas from LIDAR Data
This study is aimed at developing automated methods to recognize railroad infrastructure from 3D LIDAR data. Railroad infrastructure includes rail tracks, contact cables, catenary cables, return current cables, masts, and cantilevers. The LIDAR dataset used in this study is acquired by placing an Optech Lynx mobile mapping system on a railcar, operating at 125 km/h. The acquired dataset covers ...
